■”Mysterious Pond” Synopsis
Eiko (Natsuki Kunimoto) is a woman adrift in this haunting tale of a lost soul seeking healing after a traumatic event blares the lines between reality and the spiritual mist that has consumed her.
A hand maiden in a small Japanese tea house, Eiko spends her free time glaring into the misty ambiguity of a local pond until a concerned consul intervenes and encourages her to embrace the most traditional essence of Japanese culture to regain her sense of self-worth.
Eiko soon embarks on a mystically pilgrimage that will see two “Masters” play a significant impact on that journey.
One is a blind Sensei of traditional Japanese traditional fan dance (Masaya Kato). He teaches Eiko how Nihon Buyo weaves nature, physicality and spirits to revitalize her soul. The second master is Daisōshō Koji (Lee Murayama), a harsh but gentle spirit who steers Eiko through the repetitive rigors of what some think is a dying art.
These intricate nuances of Japan’s bedrock cultural mainstays play out in wickedly unique colorful backgrounds in this deeply emotional quest for redemption.
